The National Council on Economic Education invites you to attend the 2008 Annual Conference of the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE), National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE) and the Global Association of Teachers of Economics (GATE). This year’s conference will be hosted by the Mississippi Council on Economic Education. The Annual Conference will be held at the Beau Rivage Hotel, Biloxi, Mississipps.

This is the largest nationwide conference focusing on K-12 economic, financial and entrepreneurship education, featuring:

  • The latest in curriculum development, instructional materials, teaching strategies, new programs and best practices.
  • Professional development workshops and sessions for K-12 teachers.
  • Outstanding speakers on current economic topics.
  • Networking opportunities for university-level economic educators and K-12 teachers, and others with an interest in the field.

Conference Logistics

Facilities
All conference sessions and exhibits will be held at the Beau Rivage Hotel, 875 Beach Blvd., Biloxi, MS 39530. Phone: (228) 386-7111, http://www.beaurivage.com.

Registration Information
You may register online at www.ncee.net/conference (preferred), by mail or by fax. Your registration fee entitles you to attend any of the plenary or concurrent sessions. It also includes the Thursday night reception and awards dinner. Teacher workshops are at an additional cost of $10/per workshop.

Hotel Reservations
Special conference hotel rates have been arranged at the Beau Rivage Hotel. Rates are as follows:

  • Monday, October 6-Thursday, October 9 = $129
  • Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11 = $169
  • (plus tax) for single or double occupancy.

You may reserve rooms by calling 1-888-383-7037. When reserving your room, refer to the NCEE/NAEE/GATE Annual Conference. Room reservations must be received by Friday, September 12, 2008 to qualify for the conference rate.

The Beau Rivage Hotel check-in time is 3:00 pm with check-out time at11:00 am. The Hotel requires a first-night's room and tax deposit on a major credit card to guarantee guest rooms. The deposit is non-refundable if cancellation occurs within 72 hours or arrival.

Parking
The Beau Rivage has complimentary self-parking. Valet parking is also available to attendees.

Ground Transportation

Shuttle service to the Beau Rivage Hotel is available by Hotard Airport Shuttle for $22 roundtrip/$12 one way – CASH ONLY. Phone: 800 565-8913 or 228 354-8401. A booth operates outside the baggage claim. No reservations are needed.

Taxi
A cab ride from Gulfport Airport to the Beau Rivage Hotel is approximately 30 minutes. The cost is approximately $43. Taxis are available 24 hours a day at taxi stands in front of the terminals.

Friday, October 10 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm

A Seafood Extravaganza! Enjoy a true southern hospitality experience, delectable seafood, beautiful white sand and warm Gulf breezes at The Biloxi Green across the street from the Beau Rivage. There will be food for non-seafood eaters as well. You will feast on a seafood jamboree with all the trimmings--this is an evening that will not be duplicated during your stay in Biloxi.

Katrina Tour – Gulfport-Biloxi Coast
Cost: $10

Many participants attending this conference have supported Mississippi in the recovery from Hurricane Katrina and have expressed interest in seeing how the recovery is going. A 2-hour excursion will include bus transportation and a guided tour by a highly articulate business and civic leader. The tour along the Gulfport-Biloxi coast will include a stop at the Katrina Exhibit and the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, a national acclaimed children's museum where financial education is ongoing. Payment
Payment for the full amount must be received before the start of the conference or accompany your registration form. An email confirmation will be sent to participants.

Cancellations
Cancellations of registration received by Wednesday, September 17 qualify for a full refund minus a $25.00 processing fee. No refunds will be made after that date.

Conditions
Preregistration deadline for the conference is Wednesday, September 17. A late registration fee of $25.00 will be charged for registrations postmarked after September 17.
